Chhattisgarh Encounter: Security Forces Recover Weapons and Explosives in Anti-Maoist Operation
Sukma, Chhattisgarh Encounter (March 29, 2025) – In a major anti-Maoist operation, security forces gunned down 16 alleged Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, while two security personnel sustained injuries, officials confirmed.
Joint Operation Leads to Intense Gunfight
Acting on intelligence reports about Maoist presence in the Kerlapal police station area, a joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched an operation on Friday night. The encounter began around 8 a.m. on Saturday, resulting in an intense gun battle between security forces and Maoists.
By 10 a.m., security forces confirmed the recovery of 16 bodies of alleged Maoists from the encounter site. A large cache of weapons and explosives, including AK-47s, SLRs, INSAS rifles, .303 rifles, rocket launchers, and BGL launchers, was seized from the area.
Injured Jawans in Stable Condition
Two DRG personnel were injured during the exchange of fire, but their condition is stable, officials stated. The process of identifying the deceased Maoists is underway.
Second Major Encounter in 10 Days
This is the second significant operation in less than two weeks. On March 20, 2025, security forces neutralized 26 Maoists in the Bijapur-Dantewada region.
Since January 2025, security forces have intensified their operations, eliminating at least 116 Maoists in the Bastar region, which covers Sukma, Dantewada, and Bijapur.
Ongoing Crackdown on Maoist Activities
With multiple successful operations, security forces continue to strengthen counter-insurgency efforts in the Maoist-affected zones of Chhattisgarh. Officials emphasize that further operations will be conducted based on intelligence inputs.
