Nintendo Switch 2 Delays : Gamers in the US eager to pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2 will now have to wait a little longer. Nintendo has postponed the pre-order launch for its upcoming console in the United States. The delay follows recent international tariffs announced by the Trump administration, which have impacted global trade dynamics.
Nintendo Switch 2 Delays Due to Tariff Uncertainty
Originally, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 were scheduled to begin on April 9, 2025. However, Nintendo has officially confirmed that this date will no longer hold. The company cited concerns about the evolving market conditions and potential tariff impacts as the reason behind this move.
In a statement shared with IGN and other media outlets, Nintendo said:
“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.”
Console Launch Date Remains the Same
Despite the delay in pre-orders, the release date of the Nintendo Switch 2 is not affected. The console will still go on sale starting June 5, 2025. Currently, there is no indication of a delay in the actual launch schedule.
Tariff Shockwaves Hit Gaming Industry
The delay comes shortly after the Trump administration imposed sweeping tariffs. These include a 10% rate on general imports, with steeper charges targeting goods from China, Japan, Vietnam, and other countries. This move triggered a massive sell-off in global stock markets, with over $6 trillion wiped off Wall Street within just two days.
Industry analysts suggest that these tariffs could significantly affect pricing across the gaming sector. The Entertainment Software Association (ESA), a leading industry group in the US, warned of a “real and detrimental impact.” ESA spokesperson Aubrey Quinn noted that higher costs could lead to reduced consumer spending and even layoffs within the gaming industry.

Nintendo Direct Reveal
Nintendo fully unveiled the Switch 2 during a Nintendo Direct livestream on April 2. The one-hour showcase revealed new details about the hybrid console’s features and upcoming games scheduled for 2025 and beyond.
As of now, US consumers will need to wait for further updates on when pre-orders will begin. Until then, all eyes remain on how Nintendo navigates the uncertain trade climate ahead of the console’s global launch.
